Child Performance Licenses

Information for Parents

Children (including infants and any young person of statutory school age) working in entertainment must be licensed for that work by the Local Authority in which they live. It can take any councils any were from 7 to 28 days to issue a license. When you receive notice of a confirmed booking from us, it is to get your paper work in place without delay.

This applies for any child who will be performing on stage, television, films, modeling, or taking part in a sporting activity where any one of the following conditions is met:

  • It is paid work
  • The child is required to be absent from school in order to appear
  • The child will be working for over 4 days
  • The child has performed, licensed or unlicensed, within the previous 6 months
  • The performance is taking place on licensed premises

There are strict guidelines on the number of hours and days a child may perform which vary according to their age and the nature of the work proposed.

It is the responsibility of the organisation who commissions the model (ie the agency's client, NOT the parents) to ensure that all obligations under the Child Performance Regulations are adhered to and that a Child Performance License is in place. Under no circumstances should parents or guardians contact the local authority themselves unless specifically requested to do so by the agency.

Check List for Parents

Parents and guardians are asked to do absolutely nothing - until a confirmed booking for a job comes through.

Once a confirmed booking is received parents are asked to do the following

1 Print and fill out PART 2 of the Licence Application Form. Leave PART 1 blank

PDF License Application Form

2 Print and fill out the School Permission Letter - only required if the model is of school age and permission is required to take a day off

PDF School Permission Letter

3 Regulation 8 makes a medical examination compulsory before a licence is granted for any film or TV performance, or for a series of other performances lasting more than a week and in which the child is to perform on 6 days in a week (5 days in the case of sound recording). A doctors certificate is not normally required for photographic modeling

4 A copy of the birth certificate or passport is required

5 IMPORTANT - Parents are asked to email us all the above documents. If you are unable to scan these at home, any internet cafe will do this for you. Please do not post us any documents - we are a paperless office
