The Brelfie Chronicles For Femail

When you think of baby models, you probably picture tiny humans in designer clothes, beaming under the spotlight at a photoshoot.

But for Mum and baby model, Michelle Wong and her adorable baby boy, Kyson, their latest gig was far from your typical modeling job.

Enter The Brelfie – a word you might have heard but never expected to be part of a high-paying, nationwide interview.

How the Casting happened

It all started when Michelle got the call from our baby model agency.

The gig? A breastfeeding interview for Femail, a national publication. Sounds pretty classy, right? But wait, it gets even better. Not only was mum and baby model, Michelle and Kyson going to get featured in an article about the power of breastfeeding selfies (aka brelfies), but they were going to earn a cool £200 for their 10-minute phone chat.

The assignment was inspired by a touching moment shared by actress Thandie Newton, who posted a brelfie on Instagram, celebrating her breastfeeding journey.

The journalist was looking for mums who had posted similar images online to help promote a positive conversation around breastfeeding in public and on social media.

What exactly is a Brelfie?

Now, you might be wondering: “What exactly is a brelfie?”

Well, it’s the modern-day answer to a family portrait – a selfie taken while breastfeeding. It’s a simple, beautiful way to celebrate the bond between mother and child, and it’s turning into quite the trend.

For Michelle, sharing her breastfeeding experience on social media wasn’t something she’d thought much about until recently. “I used to be a bit shy about it, but after seeing so many other mums confidently post their brelfies, I figured, why not?” she said.

“It’s a natural part of motherhood, and if sharing it helps normalize it for others, I’m all for it.”

Quote From Mum

5 star

"When I first started breastfeeding, I never imagined I'd be talking about it with a journalist or sharing a brelfie online. But it feels empowering to be part of a conversation that helps normalize breastfeeding. And getting paid for a quick chat? Definitely a bonus!"

£200 for 10 minutes work!

So there they were, Michelle and Kyson, just doing their thing: Kyson happily feeding and Michelle, a glowing example of modern motherhood, taking part in a casual chat with a journalist. The 10-minute phone interview went by in a flash, and before she knew it, Michelle had added a £200 paycheck to her mompreneur resume.

Michelle admits she wasn’t sure if she’d make it in the world of modeling when she first signed up with our agency. “I thought the world of baby modeling was all about having an Instagram-perfect baby, but it turns out it’s about something much more real and beautiful,” she explained. “Being part of this story felt really empowering. Not just for me but for all the mums out there.”

Conclusion

It’s clear that being a model isn’t just about posing in fancy clothes or getting your picture in a magazine.

Sometimes, it's about showing the world a little vulnerability, being real, and letting others know that they're not alone. And with a phone interview that took only minutes and a cheque for £200 in the mail, Michelle and Kyson are officially part of the #BrelfieMovement.

Now, that's not a bad day’s work if you ask us!

As Michelle summed up, “Maybe next time, Kyson and I will start our own line of ‘Brelfie’ T-shirts.” Watch this space, folks. It could happen.
